Psalms 71 – Forsake me not when my Strength is spent

Standard

Today I call my Aunt Rose just to check in she is 80. She always encourages me and not let me have a pity party. She never realizes that I am and will say some profound words of WISDOM to me. Before we hung up she told me to read the following Psalm. I promised her I would. It really blessed me. So I am sharing it:

In you, LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.
5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.
7 I have become a sign to many;
you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.
9 Do not cast me away when I am old;
do not forsake me when my strength is gone.
10 For my enemies speak against me;
those who wait to kill me conspire together.
11 They say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue him and seize him,
for no one will rescue him.”
12 Do not be far from me, my God;
come quickly, God, to help me.
13 May my accusers perish in shame;
may those who want to harm me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.
14 As for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
of your saving acts all day long—
though I know not how to relate them all.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
18 Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.
19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
you who have done great things.
Who is like you, God?
20 Though you have made me see troubles,
many and bitter,
you will restore my life again;
from the depths of the earth
you will again bring me up.
21 You will increase my honor
and comfort me once more.
22 I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
I whom you have delivered.
24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
all day long,
for those who wanted to harm me
have been put to shame and confusion.

Forgiveness

Standard

How can we say we cannot forgive when we ourselves have been forgiven? I always say the person who cannot forgive has forgotten what they have been forgiven of. The Bible says “All have sin and fallen short of the Glory of God” Romans 3:23. I did a quick search and found 20 scriptures talking about forgiveness. Jesus came just for that reason to forgive us. So this subject surely is important enough for God to send Jesus.

So, what is it that is in us that we cannot forgive. Pride? Lack of Wisdom? Arrogance? Do we think that if we forgive we open ourselves up to be hurt, misused? Well, we are not responsible for how other people treat us, we cannot judge, shun or just get rid of them. We are called to act like Jesus. He was mocked, riduculed, shunned, beaten and died just for that and for us, this was the Ultimate forgiveness. So, how can we not expect the same? Besides the 20 or so scriptures in the Bible that I read; there is also some other people who say this about forgiveness:

“A forgiveness ought to be like a canceled note, torn in two and burned up, so that it can never be shown against the man. “ ~ Henry Ward Beecher

“Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart.” ~ Corrie Ten Boom

“Man has two great spiritual needs. One is for forgiveness. The other is for goodness.” ~ Billy Graham

“Forgiving and being forgiven are two names for the same thing. The important thing is that a discord has been resolved.” ~ C.S. Lewis

“To err is human, to forgive, divine.” ~ Alexander Pope

Who am I that you are mindful of me?

Psalm 8

New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 8

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] A psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
    in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
    to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
    which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    human beings that you care for them?[c]

You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
    and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
    you put everything under their[g] feet:
all flocks and herds,
    and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
    and the fish in the sea,
    all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!

When I say that there is nobody GREATER than my God I mean it. Singing this with heart tonight because MY GOD is awesome! He is a protector, a way maker! HE is LORD! Thank you Jesus for watching over my family, children and grandchildren.  When I think about His goodness and all He has done for me not only do I shout Hallelujah, I cry out with JOY unspeakable JOY!
